Break Out the LinnDrum and Get Your Funk Face On!

Funk offers so many learning opportunities in a deceptively simple framework. Some key takeaways from this style are:
    1) Using chord fragments- break up your large barre chord shapes.
    2) Recycle those pentatonic shapes in a different context.
    3) 16th note rhythm patterns to develop strong timing and a feel for the “pocket”.
    4) Phrasing and Arranging – dancing around a 16th note grid with different guitar parts lets you explore placing different parts in different places along the beat.

In this video I share an 80s inspired funk practice track that slowly builds and break down each part so you can incorporate some of these concepts into your own playing no matter the style of music.

As always, I welcome and questions. Thank you, Joe
